A digest for conscious living
I have been maintaining my schedule of getting up early in the morning in order to have ample time for my Practice. When I really feel tired, a half hour of yoga is a wonderful way to get my energy flowing so that by the time I sit down to meditate the fog has cleared. I have also gotten into the habit of drinking a cup of green tea with some honey before I begin my meditation. I love this routine…
Its interesting how this path of self realization which seems to pierce so deeply into ones self eventually leads one back to others. One of the most powerful and recurring insights I have had on this path is how in spite of the fact that I can only truly Awaken myself, life is actually about others. I need other people to truly experience myself.
It reminds me of quantum theory and the principle that a particle does not really exist until it is observed. I suspect the self realization works in a similar way. Initially we objectify our own identity and learn to love ourselves, but eventualy we need other people in order to truly bring to fruition the most valuable thing that a human being has to offer- Love. Its almost as if Love does not truly exist until there is something or someone to Love. There needs to be a subject as well as an object in order to bring anything into experience.
Non-duality is somewhat like the concept of infinity- fascinating and wonderous, but impossible to experience without stopping our mind and hence without ceasing to exist in this experience. Emptiness is perfect, but there is no humanity in it. That is not a criticism, just an observation. It is only when I return to my ordinary mind that I truly appreciate non-duality. It is in that moment that my humanity returns and it is in that moment that gratitude pours over me for the joy of being alive. Love needs space in order to exist. Love needs separation.
It is like a supersaturated solution of minerals in perfectly clean water. In order for a crystal to form, a tiny particle of matter must be introduced to the solution. The homogeny must be broken in order for the minerals in solution to precipitate into existence. In the same way, by creating the illusion of separation, my consciousness literally brings the universe into existence, and by loving myself and others I redeem it.
