04.12.10-It is I

We braved a snow storm and bad road conditions to arrive at our secluded snowy enclave yesterday afternoon and will be staying here for 9 days. The place where we are staying is an old renovated farmhouse with no visible neighbors. The entire landscape is covered in a thick blanket of powdery snow, making for a location that is not only beautiful but also ascetically silent. Its perfect.

My wife and I began our fast yesterday and I began to feel the effects in earnest today. A fast is in actuality a cleansing of the body, which has marked effects on the mind. The initial withdrawal and detoxification process can be rather unpleasant, but the benefits it affords are substantial. Periods of amazing clarity, emotional harmony, and insight definitely make the initial suffering worth while.

In spite of a significantly weakened physical state, I completed a half hour of yoga in the morning and my wife and I meditated during our daughter’s afternoon nap. It was one of the clearest and most penetrating sessions that I have ever had.

Silence, stillness, connection, rapture, gratitude… from the moment I sat down on my cushion this was the cycle. Peace and joy precipitated in the pit of my stomach and palpably radiated for hours afterwards- It is I.

A bird flutters down to pick something from the white ocean on the ground.

It pecks… digs, and soon hops into flight and disappears into the forrest.

The trees bear their white burden in silence.

Goodnight,

Kikta
